Halo effect on local HD channels

I've noticed a bit of a halo effect, or black line, when watching local broadcast networks and, for example, someone is standing in front of a very bright background; there's sometimes this thick black line to the left of them outlining them.

I have a 622 with a Sony LCD, component hookup.

Normally I know this is caused when the TV sharpness is too high, but I have mine all the way off.

Any idea what this might be??? Anyone else noticed this???

It's not constant, I only notice it occasionally.

Thanks!

Could be the hdmi connection on your 622 isn't working right. I have a similar problem on my bedroom 622 over hdmi and I have to replace it if I don't want to keep using just component.

I've noticed the same thing on OTA channels. it depends on the station/network,
and how well they maintain their equipment.

It's called scan velocity modulation.

Look at your TV manual to see it you can turn it off. It is an edge enhancement tool added to TV sets and monitors to enhance contrast along edges of objects.

I think I'd have to get into the service menu to do that, and I don't want to start messing around in there (fairly new TV and that may void the warranty). It's not annoying enough yet anyway...I'm just satisfied I now know what it is and it's not an equipment malfuntion!

Thanks everyone.

Anyone use ClubDish PPV Coupons on HD??

At what point do you ask for a 622 replacement?
