Hello,

I have a VIP-211 and a 500GB Seagate External Drive. Yesterday when I turned the unit on it said I had to reformat my Hard Drive. I did that and it reboots, detects the HD, tests for compatibility, then reformats and when everything comes back there is no DVR function. I disconnected and reconnected and tried again 3 more times and it's the same thing every time. I would think the HD is shot but wouldn't I get some kind of error message from the 211 saying the HD is corrupt?

Thanks,
Jay

Have you tried unplugging (power) your 211 for a couple of minutes?

Yep tried that. I even tried it again today and still nothing. No DVR functions but yet nothing says the drive is bad and nothing says confirmation of DVR functions.

Thanks
Jay

Connect the EHD to your PC and use the Disk Management facility (right click My Computer and click manage) to format with windows, then delete those partitions, so the drive looks new to the receiver.

You probably hav a corrupted linux partition gumming up the works.
