I've noticed more and more that when HD locals are turned on for a city they are on 61.5. Now my city is supposedly going HD later this year. When it does will it be on 61.5? I currently have 129, would the HD locals come on the 129 as well? Would I have to get a new dish. I thought I'd heard once that everything on 61.5 was mirrored on 129. That could be a lie though. Please let me know. Thanks.

You need to specify your location for anybody even to guess.

We suspect that HD nationals will be mirrored, but HD locals will all be on spot beams. This means that for most smaller markets, HD locals will be on only one sat or the other. If you are in a large DMA, then your locals might be carried on both sats to reduce LOS issues.

If I were a betting man, SB HD locals would be at 61.5º. There's a ton of spot beams at 61.5º making lots of room for local HD channels. If and when HD locals become available, you will have to opportunity to upgrade/re-point, probably for free with a 18 month commitment, or for a nominal fee without a commitment.

Keep an eye on the uplink reports to see when SB goes up.

See ya
Tony
