Hi

I am an FTA hobbyist back in the Philippines. I arrived in Texas 6mo ago. Just a little confused about the hobby here in the US. Is it legal to play with Satellite Dishes and Receivers in Texas? I am near San Antonio and looking for any stores selling items related to this hobby. I am interested to shoot FTA satellites if its allowed here. I enjoyed the hobby shooting Asian and Midwest Satellites back in the Philippines using 1.8m dishes and 75cm. Aside from FTA i also enjoy hamradio. I need some help from you guys on how to start here in the US.

thanks

Sharing some of satellite dishes images..

Welcome to the site!
Yes it is legal here as long as you are not trying to hack into a pay service. Other than that all is fair game and just as fun here as over there, except I assume you got a lot more stuff over there.

Lots of hams on this site also including myself.

Yeah it's legal. Just the "brick and mortar' dealers are spread far and wide. For Ku a 90cm dish is recommended. But I'm getting pretty good performance with a .7m. And up to a 1.0 meter is OK under OTARD rules. (hopefully you don't have to contend with HOA's or local restrictions on dishes and antennas) C band, a 10 ft (3 meter) but smaller will work at decreasing performance as size goes down. Some C band can be had with as little as a 1.0 meter. But it's only a few. Suggest at least a 1.8 meter (6 ft)

Welcome Jorge,

Welcome to SatelliteGuys! C and KU FSS has many free and legal channels. 2.5m minimum dish size recommended for C-band and 90 cm for KU. Most transponders are linear, but many of the Eastern C-band are circular polarity.

What part of the Philippines were you living? Looking at property near Dumaguete.

Hi Brian, thanks for the response. Good to know that its ok to play with sats here in US. Been shooting asian and middle east sats back in PH. Any recommendation of cheap receivers thats with DBVs/2 and capable of IPTV? So far i havent seen store selling items related to this hobby here in SA or maybe i havent roam around that much coz am new here. Got a usable directtv dish from a trash with a dual LNB am not so sure if this will work if attach to a receiver. Hope somebody from this group could help me start and provide me some KU band sats frequencies. Btw i im from northern Mindanao , south of the Philippines. yes its nice to invest there, if youre from America..still have some properties there. Try also considering Mindanao, theres a developing place there named Coral Resort Estate. If you want areas like beaches maybe i could help you find one. Dumaguete is a nice place in central Philippines..

thanks..
