Our old dvr was crashing so made the move to the Hopper with a Joey. The tech is saying it has to be connected to internet. We are on Hughes Net and can't waste our usage. We don't watch movies on demand or online. Will this be an issue with normal viewing?

Yeah, I figure that they just want it always connected. Our concern was just that it would do things that we hadn't authorized like upgrades

I understand your concern, as there tends to be times the Hopper will act as a vampire unit and continuously use up data. Your safe bet is not connecting Internet to it, unless you wanna do it between 2-8 am.

Can you combine OTA and Hopper signals?
