Hi,

I've had my Hopper 3 and wired Joey 3 for three years. A year ago, I call Dish and requested to add the Hopper Plus to my system. I have a Google TV box on another input, but would really like to have streaming and the Dish guide in the same interface. The installer arrived and said that it would be a mistake to install the Plus. He said there are too many problems with it. I really need a stable system so I agreed to decline the installation. What is the opinion of this community? Can I have the Plus and still have a stable Dish TV system?

I would say you had a lazy installer.

The Plus has been flawless for quite awhile now. (It was crap before) but I am happy with it now. I can't remember the last time I flipped over to my Fire TV hooked up to the same TV.

Thank you for the information Scott.

A follow-up question for anyone who may know the answer:
My father-in-law has his own apartment in our house and is connected to our Dish system. He does not have an interest in streaming and would prefer to keep his same user interface where he turns on the TV and the guide is displayed. Is this possible with his wired Joey when connected to the Plus?

I have never understood the value of the plus, but then again I still have the hws
again I see no reason to move to the H3 since there is no 4K programming except streaming, and my internet service isn't that fast
4K programming is the last reason to consider a Hopper 3 and not everyone has the same needs. People who do a lot of recording with more than 2-3 TV's need a Hopper 3.
Faster GUI, better video drivers, etc - all worth it.
If you're gonna pay for cable TV, why not have the best equipment?

Do the better video drivers result in a better picture?

No, would need 2 he's as I use the component out of 1 to feed another TV via cat5
In that case bill would be the same, but would have to purchase the second h3. Or could switch to an hdmi splitter and then use hdmi over cat5 instead. Or even better since your monthly would go down, just add an additional Joey and now can change channels separate and have own remote.

I have had no real issues, since I have had it. Every once in a while, something small comes up, but nothing major.

why would they force customer to purchase the 2nd H3?
Isn't the same as 2 HWS's?
what would be the difference?

Because the hopper3 has 16 tuners compared to the 3 in each hws. With the hws, two hoppers was essential in installs with more than 5 tvs and a better option than a super Joey in installs with 4 or 5 tvs.
With the hopper3s 16 tuners that necessity was no longer as you could just continue adding joeys. So dish said you're only allowed one leased h3 per household. Any additional would need to be purchased.

New Hopper Plus and Joey 4s have major flaw at release
