I am considering purchasing a HDD for my Hopper w/Sling. Once the external HDD is connected, can I then choose where I want the programs to be stored, or does the Hopper "ignore" the internal HDD from that point forward?

Also, when we upgrade equipment down the road, can HDD's be used with the new devices, or is it "married" to the box it was connected to??

All recordings go to the internal, but you can move to/from the external. Both are active and you can watch from either.

Your EHD can be used on any Hopper on your account, present or future. Married to acct, not rcvr.

You never know what manufacturer's drive are in those Fantoms. Also, though I'm not exactly sure why, some have warned about using Green drives for this purpose. The majority here recommend AC powered Western Digital EHDs.

I got away with using an unpowered Seagate during my Hopper/Hopper w/Sling transition. That being said, I would by far trust a powered drive more. It was just all I had that wasn't in use at the time. Since then I have gotten another powered drive.

Thanks, guys. This is a big help. Can you watch the Hopper content you store on the EDD remotely through Sling, or does that only work on the internal drive?
