How do I replace a Hopper full of shows?

self powered drives will get power from the hopper a usb port is all that's needed

Short term. Long term- ???

I suggest only powering them when in use
Doesn't matter if it's external or internal, because you can't duplicate the recordings as a backup.

You can use h/w RAID 1 arrays, like I did. End up with two identical HDDs.

Fat lot of good it did me. I still lost almost everything, across several EHDs, some RAID.

4 Dish techs have told me, beginning when it was new, that my Hopper 3 w/Sling is buggy. It's getting worse, and they tell me to buy a 2TB self-powered external HDD (no SSD or flash drive) for $60-$80, archive my Hopper contents onto it, replace the Hopper, then dump those EHD contents onto the new Hopper.
1. I can't find a self-powered 2TB EHD on the internet. They're apparently dinosaurs.
2. I'm not about to archive my Hopper onto an EHD unless I am sure I can retrieve its contents. I've lost too many entire Spectrum and Dish drive contents with "sure things".
3. What am I not finding? Are there any self-powered EHDs available that are simple plug and play (reformatting is OK, but anything beyond that is gobbledygook to this Luddite by Choice.)

Okay it's been quite a few years since I had to replace my H3, and when I last did it they had a Tech come out, BUT ....

If I remember correctly he set up the new H3, activated it (also deactivated the old one), then connected both directly to each other via ethernet. At that point he set it to copy all my recordings and settings over (it took a long while so he left a return box with me and said to send the old H3 back when it was finished or I would get charged for it).

Maybe they can't do it that way anymore, or maybe my memory is just gone :p.
Best thing would be to reach out to brittanygarden for more info .....

No, that's right, it just doesn't work as consistently as it used to

Move a dish about 15 feet...

Yet again ... No Hopper-compatible EHD available
