Is it possible to hook up the 811 HD receiver to a standalone series 2 tivo? Thanks for the help. :)

Tivo

I have one of my 811's connected with Tivo, Just connect your S-video from
your 811 to your S-video on your TV. If you already have Component cable's,
or DVI connected to your TV leave those connected. When you want to
use Tivo you will just have to switch your input from your TV to the S-video
input. Like someone else said, you can't record HD, and it will down convert
to SD, but (my TV's a 27 inch) it's a better picture than the 301 receiver provided when I tried it. The picture quality is fine on my set, but it's
small, and we set about 8 feet away. Question , what size is your TV?
If it's a big unit the picture quality might not be what you want. Like I said
my TV's a 27 inch and from 8 feet away the picture looks fine, but up close
you can tell the difference, if I had it connected to my 46inch TV probably
would be an unacceptable unless you sat 20 feet away.
Also and this is important for recording if you use Tivo, either have only one favorites list for all the channels you watch, if you have more than
one and the channel your trying to record is not on that list it can't change
the channel.
Channel changes are a little slow, and if your using Tivo they have their own guide , that slower than the favorites page on Dish, but you get used to it, set up takes a little bit of time, there is a v-bulletin site for Tivo, where
you can get the remote control settings for the Tivo remote for the 811. I think you can get there from TiVo's home page.
Once every things set up it's a breeze, just a small learning curve to get use to it. I love it , I travel alot so I like to record shows while I'm away, and getting a Dish DVR for me would have required a DP 34 switch and the cost of buying or leasing a DVR from Dish, and if the picture quality on the
Dish DVR's (except the 921) is the same has the 301 unit, the picture will be
better than the Dish DVR. The 921 is out of my budget and Circuit City has
been running the 40 hour unit at 149.00 with a hundred dollar rebate, but
at best quality ( and you really need to use Best Quality ) on Tivo that's only
about 12 hours of recording, There are sites where you can add a 2nd,or bigger hard drive if you want to (would void the warranty) but I fine 12 hours to be just fine.
One last point if you use OTA channels, Tivo can't find then unless you
manually switch to it from your Dish Remote, and if you want to watch HD
just switch to your Component, or DVI connection and use your Dish remote
just like normal. Hope this helps!

I am using 811 with Tivo just fine. I am using the SD output for the Tivo while HD out put to HD inout on TV and SD output from Tivo for SD input on TV. Works very well.
