How Does VOD Work?

Does VOD stream via sat? I figure the phone or broadband connection that's needed at access a VOD movie is just used for ID purposes, right?

The VOD movies are downloaded via satellite & stored on the hard drive of the DVR. When you watch them, it is not streaming "live" over the satellite, but is coming off the hard drive.
