Hey everyone,
I have a bad HD Tivo that I am sending back to Directv. Unfortunately it has all the season finales that we haven't had a chance to watch. I'm wondering if there's a way to connect the Tivo to the computer to copy files over without voiding the warranty. Even if I can connect it to my computer, I can run Spinrite to try to recover the hard drive if it's bad.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

The answer is no. The recordings are encrypted, and the encryption is tied to the crypto chip on the Tivo's motherboard. If you could get that Tivo back up and running, there are things you can do to unscramble the videos, but it's non-trivial. Go here and search for S2_Unscramble.
