hughes sd dvr40 remote problems

I have a hughes sd dvr40 directv tivo that has been working fine until I moved it to a new room today (gentley). Now the remote has a mind of its own and continues through multiple selections on a single click. I've changed the batteries in the remote and restarted the system without success. Let me know of a decent solution.
