DIRECTV Retailers are getting emailed today letting them know that DIRECTV is out of AEP1 remotes, and that THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANYMORE.

Retailers are concerned about this, but the email says retailers can update the hardware for customers to use AEP2 remotes.

Anyways here is a copy of the email which a number of retailers have sent me.

DIRECTV Partners,

Quick update regarding AEP1 remotes-

DIRECTV's inventory of AEP1 remotes has been fully depleted, and no additional remotes will be manufactured. Distributor inventory has also been exhausted.

For customers requiring a replacement remote:

  • NACE offers a large-button remote that is compatible with AEP1 receivers
  • DSI offers an alternate compatible remote option

If a compatible replacement remote is not available, the recommended path forward is to upgrade the location to AEP2 equipment. This requires replacement of the receiver, remote, and power supply.

Those are the special "Advanced Entertainment Platform" remotes used for things like hotels, dorms and nursing homes.
Thanks, Kyle. I had no idea what AEP remotes were. I think I have had every type of consumer remote made, starting with the remote for a D10 receiver. You saved me the trouble of turning to an AI app.
