I have been using a coolsat 7000 and 6100 with D** and am trying to switch to FTA. I found a westron WNC dish (looks like a rectangle with rounded corners), bought a moteck sg-2100 motor and DMS twin ku lnbf and now have it all connected. So far, I can't find a sat to save my life.
My first problem was that the mount that came with the dish did not fit with the motor but I fixed that by using the mount from a SBC dish.
The good news is that the motor turns the dish just fine.
in the coolsat 6100 I have the LNB settings as single, freq 10750, 22khz off, diseq off/off/off.

While it is fun to watch the dish move back and forth, I would like to see so sats some time.
** forgot to mention, even though I told the guy what dish I would use he did not tell me that this lnb did not fit directly to this dish so I have it sitting on top of the two horns that are already mounted there. **

Also, the power bar on the coolsat6100 is almost all the way to the right (full minus about 4 little blocks) but no quality.
It never varies much as I move the dish from east to west.

If your lnbf isnt mounted in the right place, it may not see enough signal to get you a picture. If I understand what you're saying....
Post a pic of it, if you can. Otherwise, you could try adjusting the elevation to compensate for the higher position of the lnbf, but, still, if it isn't in the "sweet spot" for that dish it might not give you much signal to work with.
It's easier to try pointing the dish without the motor at first, it has to be just right or it will miss all the sats.

my pictures

try not to laugh at my setup. I'm just trying to see if this really works before I start drilling holes in my house.

Dont know if you're trying to use it right there or not, it needs to be on a pole thats perfectly vertical to track the satellite arc. Plus Im not sure if that lnbf will pick up much where it is, but if you would point it at one satellite, then just adjust your elevation up/down until you hit a signal, you could tell. Usually those dishes aren't exactly big enough for linear KU but will pick up some of the stronger transponders. Pick a satellite, then transponder from The List, top of page here, and program a few of the channels in your receiver for experimentation.

If you can, you will be better off putting a pole in the ground, where it's easier to work on too lol. Of course, need line of sat to the southern sky without trees or obstructions.

Thanks for the input everyone!!! I will get a bigger dish. I tried with this one since it is bigger than the D500 that I have and I really just wanted to see if it would work before I spent too much on it. Any suggestions on where to get the dish?

Try clicking on one of the sponsors here, top of page again, sadoun, gosatellite, satellite av all have dishes...the shipping might be expensive on some of the bigger ones. But 36-39" dish will get most all of the feeds we pick up in the US.
Or, some of us who are bent on saving money, just look around the neighborhood and find an old Primestar dish, which work very well and already have linear lnbf on them.People will give them away sometimes just to get rid of them.

The dish you are using looks like a DirecTV AT-9, which cannot be used for FTA due to the fact that the LNBFs are not designed to receive linear Ku. Also, as Iceberg stated, the dish is somewhat undersized. You'll need at least a 30" dish with a linear Ku LNBF for most FTA up there.
