The hope is that what you end up with is significantly better than what you could have purchased and as media streamers go, I don't think this is going to represent that end. Sure, some of the specs are better than the Pi, but what would you do with a Pi that would benefit from better specifications?
The communities of Arduino and Raspberry pie takes a lot of the burden off your shoulders so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel with everything you do. Otherwise, you might as well develop for Windows where it is all about translating and porting your software to new development platforms every few years.
Just got this in Friday. Just now put an image of "TinkerOS" on a chip and booted it.
It did fire up and runs ok. Not had time to do any extensive testing with it.
I notice they pulled the Kodi image off the site and took the sales down at a number of sites. They are now saying this is because the official release date for these is March 23.
At that time there will be much more support. We will see.....
They just released a beta version of Android 6 for the Tinker Board. You can grab it from the ASUS site.
I put it on yesterday, and installed a Kodi apk and Netflix apk and it has been running great all day.
The OS does not come with Google Play services or Google Play store, so if you want those you will have to go somewhere like apkmirror.com once you have the OS running and install them.
This is how I installed Kodi and Netflix. So far this is running smoother than my Pi 3's. It should with the faster CPU and 2Gigs of ram.
