Going on a year ago, I posted and reported (to Dish) about an issue where, using dish anywhere, outside of the home, you cannot record any OTA channels.
It's still a problem and an issue for me because I travel a lot and if I want to set a recording for something that is on an OTA channel, I cannot. I have to wait until I'm at home in front of the Hopper/Joey.
Sucks.
Is it because:
A) All support related emails to Dish go straight to their junk folder?
B) Dish doesn't want you to have the luxury of recording OTA's out of home; they want you to buy the locals to stream? (anything streaming will record OOH)
C) They don't really give a $hit?
D) They just don't know and are stumped?
E) all of the above.

Buy yourself an Air TV 2 tuner or 4 tuner Air TV Anywhere ota dvr that will intergrate the ota channels into a free Sling TV account. The 2 tuner device requires you to add an external hard drive or usb hard drive to record shows. The 4 tuner device has a built in 1tb hard drive and doesn't work with an external or usb hard drive.

Sign up for a FREE Sling TV account - you don't have to pay for any programming at all to get a free account. Then you can watch anywhere you want the ota channels and it will come with a more complete guide information then DISH provides on the ota channels. Same parent company Echostar and DISH and Sling Tv and Air TV are all under them.

You can watch You Tube and see videos on how the Air TV device works and how it works for free with Sling TV. I have a Sling TV account and a 4 tuner Air Tv Anywhere ota dvr. It works well and I can watch the shows anywhere there is wifi.

That is an interesting thought and I might consider it down the road. I was hoping to keep everything on one ecosystem to make it easier and one less thing to fiddle with. Honestly if Dish never 'fixes' this I can live with it grudgingly but I appreciate the suggestion.

Not found in available apps, but the search function works for both shows & apps, so I typed 'sling' and at first got a voice message "Opening Sling...live TV...shows & movies." Then the words "Sling Freestream" appeared. However I can access no cable channels and what this seems to feature are limited-content "canned" versions of channels such as Fox News, ABC and AMC. I also see nowhere to do the signup, and any misstep with the remote dumps me out of the app, and then It's still not shown in my available apps and I have to re-do the search to get back on it. Will explore it a little more....

I think my thread got hijacked

OK was able now to get it onto my app list so I don't have to search to open it, but it looks a little sketch...Never did sign up, does that make any diff in what you can get? Also how does it help you get your offair ch's?

If you have your OTA antenna hooked up to an AirTV device, that will pass those channels to Sling.

Well Dang. now I'm impressed a Dish employee is taking the time :)
I'm not a regular DISH employee, I'm a cool DISH employee
(Insert Mean Girls gif)

My team verified, on multiple boxes, that OTA channels were not present on DAny. This has been escalated to the DAny Product team. I'll post an update here once I have one.

Thanks. I can see them and watch the OTA on DA outside of home. I just can't set a recording for any of them. IS that what you're referring to? And, thanks.

I should clarify. I've always been able to see the local OTA channels in the guide and watch (live) anytime out of home with DA (android app or browser). I've just never been able to set a recording from any of them OOH and that's the real issue.

I received an update from Product:

For OTA channels we have available metadata for, you can record them via DAny. For OTA channels we do not have available metadata for, you cannot. This will vary with each DMA, but we have metadata for most of the big 4 (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) in each market.

If you have a specific channel you are attempting to record, I may be able to verify if we have metadata or not.

Tell more about free sling, hadn't heard of that. Any content?
I actually have the FREE Sling TV account and I just subscribe to their dvr feature for $5.00 a month and can record anything that they have in free view and keep it for 9 months. Add to that the ota feature and I can record up to 140 hours of ota content using the 4 tuner device. I can record all the horror and sci-fi shows and Mystery Science Theater. Any one can get FREE view channels. Just sign up for a free Sling TV account and you can watch them. The dvr feature is nice feature and I have lot of shows recorded to watch during the summer.
