You can't compare Apples and Oranges :no

Not comparing apples and oranges. Comparing apples to apples, just in 2 different countries.

The type of government doesn't have a huge impact on the cost of satellite equipment. That was just an example on how much the equipment cost the provider.

Just wanted to point out that DTV, as well as E*, are indeed making a decent profit from the sale of equipment, so one cannot use the excuse that DTV loses money or just breaks even from the sale of equipment.

On most new subscribers DTV does lose money on equipment, you are telling me that they can give away a dish, 3 standard receivers and free install and they don't lose money? Right now people are getting HD DVRs for $199 after rebate, do you think D* is making money there? Hence the commitment requirement.

My point in my previous post was, you can't compare prices of items when involving 2 different countries, look at it this way...

Here, in the good 'ol USA, I paid $2.57/gallon for gas today
Some European contries, gas is $6.00/gallon
Meanwhile, if you are lucky enough to live in Venezuela gas is $0.12/gallon :shocked

Different Countries with Different Governments = Different Economies = Different Prices. Do you complain about the price you pay for gas in the USA because it is $0.12/gallon in Venezuela?
