I've stumped Google.

Back in the 1970s, OTA in Chicago, there was a long running promo for a TV Western series, possibly it ran on WGN, that pulled a line from the show where a tough guy says "If I wanted your back talk I'd ask for it". What was the show?

Anyone? Google does not know. I alway thought it was a great line, and I used it once working the telephone in customer service at a dead-end job I had.

After thinking about this further, I'm pretty sure the show was The Big Valley. A review of the DVD set at Amazon gave me another memorable line from the promo:

"...The first TV drama to feature a powerful female lead (a woman the commercials proudly proclaimed had "backbone and bite")..."

Backbone and bite. That phrase and "tempestuous", describing another female character, is what I remember from the promo, from back in the day. Plus the back talk quote!
