A meter that is just a standalone DTV tuner isn't particularly exciting. You can get them at Goodwill for next to nothing.

Assuming that OTA doesn't die a painful death, a hand-held (complete with battery and display) is what is truly needed.

It would be more impressive if it had a meter on the box itself along with the ability to put in an RF number without the need of a monitor to be used. I know it's got a signal lock indicator, but having the extra info on the box itself would be more valuable. Like you said, these boxes are everywhere with the same firmware. The only difference is it's got his name on it, so he gets some monetary benefit to it.
