Do they now cut a bigger radius around first and third base? I remember that back in the mid-1970s, Joe Morgan used to take leads where he was straddling the imaginary line from the "corner" of the first base cutaway going straight away from home plate.

I think it varies from park to park as far as that goes.
Morgan played most of his games on astro turf, as in not grass, so those lines never changed.

I think each team can do what they want. There is no set standard for where you have to start from.

I remember Joe use to get at least 1 foot off the dirt and onto the carpet and considered that a good lead ....
