International Programming on 121

Hi,

Does anyone have any idea what Dish's timeline is
for moving all programming off of 121?

From what I understand, it is Dish's plan to completely
phase out the superdish, and to do this, they will
ultimately end up taking all of the programming off of
both 121 and 105.

They have already almost completely removed local
channels from these two satellite locations, leaving, with a
few exceptions, only the international channels on
121.

When will those channels be moved off, and where
will they likely be moved to?
But most importantly, when?
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Int'l channels have been moving from 121 to the wings (61.5 & 148) but that has only been some of them. They stay mirrored on 121 for a while.

Good news is 61.5 & 148 only need an 18" dish (instead of SD)

They'll stay on 121 until the end of the year...locals were different.

Ok

So what you are saying is:

1) The international channels that have not already
been moved off of 121 will be there until the end of
2006; AND

2) International channels that are moved off of 121
will be mirrored at 61.5 and 148.

I subscribe to an international channel that is still on
121. By the end of this year, that channel will have
been moved to 61.5 and 148.

So, in the end, I will be losing my 1 dish solution for
international channels, period.

That actually kind of sucks.

Confirm that I understood you correctly.

Thanks.

no need to hit "enter" when you get near the end of the page...the system does auto wraparound :)

nothing is etched in stone. As we all know, Dish likes to move stuff around.

pretty much. If its on 121 now, it probably will be there until the end of 06

correct

not necessarily. Dish hasnt decided on what they are fully going to do with 121. I think what part of it is, there were lots of Int'l channels on the wings, then Dish decided to add new channels to SD requiring people who already had a simple solution to upgrade. So they moved some channels back to the wings. Will they move all Int'l back to wings? Probably not

Good to know

Ok, so the Superdish 121 is not necessarily being
permanently phased out then.

It just won't be offered anymore unless people
will actually be subscribing to international
programming, as there will be no other use that
it provides (no more locals).

That is good to know, I was really not looking forward
to that 2 dish solution.

GoalieBob confused the hell out of me with his
information at this thread, which directly contradicts
what you just told me.

Sorry about manually wrapping my text, but I like
the way it looks more. I hate when I have one liners
going all the way across the screen. I like it
better when it looks like a newspaper column.

what will happen is when say they move X Int'l channels to wings. Any new customers will get the 2 dish solution. Current are grandfathered to a point. When Dish decides to stop mirroring it on 121, they will send you a letter or have a screen on your receiver that says to callto upgrade.

That is good to know, I was really not looking forward to that 2 dish solution.
thats pretty rare...most people don't like SD :)

SD may go away but right now we don't know. With Dish, you never know what they have in their collective heads. When 105 first came out, that was goign to be for nothing but HD...then they found out the footprint sucked so they went to locals instead.

What Int'l programming do you have? Reason I ask is if its a big bulk of channels (like Great Wall package) and most channels are on 121, it will probably be a while before they move :)

Except that I live in Lansing, MI, so HD is not exactly on the
horizon. Putting my locals on 110 made no difference to
my viewing experience at all whatsoever.

I have portuguese SPT on channel 817, which is ALREADY mirrored
on 61.5 and 148. Also, it is ala carte.

I guess this means I may be kissin it goodbye a little bit sooner
than I thought. Oh well, hello wing dish.

On second thought:
Is there a programming package I can have where I would be
able to have just 1 satellite pointed at 61.5 (like HD Bronze
without locals), so that I could still have a 1 dish solution?

I guess that may not work, because some of the HD Bronze
programming is on 110W.

Hmmmmm.

the only packages you can get on 61.5 for a one dish solution is
-int'l only
-Sky Angel

Everything else (All Dish packages) require 2 dishes
