From statesman.com | Jewelry Channel to shut down in Round Rock | Statesman Business Blog

The Jewelry Channel, a 24-hour, seven-day cable channel, is shutting down in August and laying off its 106-person staff, according to a notice to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The company started its Round Rock studio in April 2007, and said at the time it expected to grow to 700 employees within several years, adding a warehouse and a call center.

But the company told the commission that the operation will shut down in early August.

The channel is owned by VGL Group, a jewelry manufacturer and exporter based

One less shopping channel.

Crap, I was looking forward to the HD version of this. Wasn't it supposed to be the replacement for TreasureHD? :)

Another loss for those of us who enjoy great TV. This was a wonderful family friendly station now we are going to be stuck with nothing but smut on our tvs!

Every time we get a channel devoted to bright sparkly things they take it away from us.

My heartfelt and sincere condolences to the station owner and their viewers. I am sorry these 3 people have lost their favorite station.

HSN & QVC have a great ordering system and presentation. It is important to be able to process orders fast with this business model. I am not sure Jewelry TV had the technology their competitors have?

Why did they just map it to 86(or something likethat) ?

The broadcasters wont be the first to know that the provider is pulling its show, it sounds like it was a last minute decision or a lets tell them when we feel like it. Atleast they gave their employee's a notice, the city of Atlanta surprised its workers yesterday with pink slips wich is not all that uncommon for a business or city goverment to do.

Yes, "Jewelry Television" is mapped to 86 on Dish (JTV.com). That same network is on channel 227. "The Jewelry Channel" is/was on channel 218 and is shutting down. They are two totally different companies.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. Have no fear, there will be another shopping channel in the future. They need to make room for QVC-HD
