Just got this bad boy

I was sent super dish serial number 1.

Charlie told me I would have a package coming. And I got home and there it was. The box was huge.

So I put it all together and put it on a pole I had outside and called a friend who had a meter. So he came over and plugged in the meter and somehow I managed to aim it perfectly without trying. You should have saw us two grown guys dancing around the satellite dish so happy that it was perfectly aimed without trying.

We ran some cables and went in the house to see what new channels we would see. Did a check switch and it saw the dish and then flipped through the guide and there was one new channel. If I remember correctly it says "Congratulations you have a Super Dish"

I was disappointed. Lol.
one channel that sounds worse than bad sex 🤣.. and just to have it tell you that you have a super dish is even worse 🤣😄

I remember driving by a movie theater seeing one up on the roof. i'm taking it the owners lived there also. but i can't imagine that thing blowing in the wind LOL. the slimlines were bad enough.. so happy that charlie went back to the dish 500!!!

If they were installed correctly with the struts they were fine. My bigger issues was all the wiring and the switch, it all looked so sloppy.

That was for the Fathom Events live feed. It originally came from satellite 121 then moved to 118 about 3 years ago. Of course now it's defunct and no longer used.

SD didn't represent any kind of gain for the customer. It was only adopted out of Charlie's scramble to get more sat locals up as he was being forced to shut off nets going to out-market subscribers. He was probably looking ahead to being able to continue to grow sub #s moreso than worried about losing existings whose sat-delivered nets were shut down. His big locals mid-life crisis, with the decision finally being to get all, or practically all, locals markets, at least for the big nets, up there. Spotbeaming, improving digital compression and add'l satellites would facilitate it, but most immediately a grabbing onto existing Ku-band capacity would let him launch markets faster. Thus the SD, which married Ku from 105 to the 500's 110 and 119.

You mentioned a huge box. I recall on a trip to Skywalker for gear looking into the warehouse and seeing these MASSIVE cartons. Superdish. It was hate at first sight. I routinely tripped with my 80s T-bird for DiSH and could get a fair # of D500 cartons and receivers into it. With that obese box, no way. Plus of course the bigger honking dish to mount up. I just stuck with installing 500s and did offair to get cxs' locals. They did pretty quickly condense the size of the SD box to something more practical, but the worst was that they went behind my back to all of my cx's and hired install co's to swap them all to SD! Didn't even offer to give me the work!
