Someone from Nagrastar just came down to my office. I guess they are doing some piracy investigation in Detroit.

Kind of wanted to talk to them, but decided to kick them out of my office instead. LOL LOL

I told them last time they wanted to talk to me that they where not allowed in my place of business.

Hope they got the message this time

They treated me really bad 6 years ago over another investigation and embarrassed me in front of all my employees for an entire day. So I really do not care what they want. I'm no longer a dealer, I have no obligation to help them.

It's called securing your crappy signal. If they could figure out how to do that like Directv already did then you wouldn't have to pay to fly your investigators 5 states away from Colorado to try to do an investigation.

When he was originally selling big dishes out the back of his pickup truck, it was said he also sold chipped VC-2's.

Anything to get the business up and running, and without encryption cracks, satellite companies wouldn't have got as large as they did as quickly as they did... He profited very well from the original Nagrastar crack of Dishes system. I think it just got away from him more than he expected.

I remember Charlie or Jim said that the government seized a trailer of video cypher units back in the 80's and kept them for a few years.

By the time they got them back a few years later they had turned to gold on the black market.

Funny how piracy was ok back then, but now that these 2 idiots own a satellite company it's not ok anymore.

I remember the "big" dish. We had one when I was younger in the late 70's early 80's. We lived in the country and got ONE channel. When we first got the dish nothing was scrambled, and we got everything. After a few years, a few channels were scrambled, until all but the religious channels were scrambled. Then came the chipped receivers. They worked for a while, then you would have to constantly change them out. Then you could hook up a PC and get the signal. It was such a circle jerk. We finally got cable, and the old dish is still out there ( I think even the old receivers are around my dad's place somewhere, but who knows (he passed away in 2002).

Today, it's not worth it. You can still "steal" the signal if you want, but you really have to be clever. You still need a PC, some Linux software, and the right stuff, but it's not worth it.

I guess I say all that to say this. It use to be OK, wink, wink, until it wasn't. Once they got people hooked they started cracking down on piracy. - and no I don't condone it.

Literally he was stealing 1 hbo channel, 1 Cinemax channel, 1 showtime channel and a ppv channel that sometimes showed soft core porn.

Back in the day just watching unscrambled satellite signals was piracy ...according to ESPN.. also there was no system for an individual to subscribe..everything was geared towards cable systems..so if you wanted to sell satellite dishes you had to overcome and adapt..but yes..it still was wrong

I believe you are correct. I was at Team Summit in LV and once heard Jim D talking with a higher up about a show. The guy said he didn't get it and Jim told him he needed to get the GOLD card. At the time i was thinking the big boys had cards to get everything.

But DTV was among the most "watched" by consumers I've known who were fine with the idea and told others about such an "option" (I've never been fine with pirating). Has that changed in the last 2 years?

My favorite thing to do with my BUG was look for feeds that weren't being broadcast or off channel audio feeds.My Uncle was an NBA coach and being unemployed for a year took a job as a "color" announcer.Watching one of the games I off tuned the audio to catch the director(I assume out in the van)giving direction to the cameramen.Talk about a blue streak!

Way to go Claude!. I would have told them the same to get lost and if they come back it would be considered trespassing and then call the cops. Hey DISH, go after the people currently stealing your signals using a method not to be mentioned here. Does the audit team still call and harass subs that have 2 or more receivers that are not connected by landline or internet?.
