Maybe I'm just old school but I'm not into the CGI apes. I watch them but prefer the 60's and 70's versions.

Would be nice to try more realistic looks by tweaking the CGI or more sophisticated costumes look, but I think the movie makers preferred CGI since it's cheaper way to do it?

I don't like the fact that it feels like I'm watching a cartoon sometimes.

Yep, but still 1600-1700 years before Heston arrives.

The ship's chronometer said November 25, 3978 in the very first movie.

Unless the Apes' movies are now part of the multiverse and everything has changed.
