Was wathching the news on KABC-HD when it went to a yellow screen. Tried the SD feed and it had a purple screen. Checked other channels and found that all four networks with the same problem. Now there is a Dish screen showing there is a problem. Any news on what the problem is?

Network news earlier was showing the brush fires in the LA area getting very close to the top of the mountain where all the stations broadcast from. Maybe the fire finaly overtook the area?

Mount Wilson hosts 22 TV stations.

As a guess, there is a huge fire up in that area which is causing the signal to Dish Network to be unreliable... Over the air channels are still coming through, so they probably switched to a different transmitter...

Just waiting for someone to blame Dish and Charlie for the brush fires and channels being down. Who's leaving because of it???? Come on, someone out there wants to! ;) :D

There is a huge fire in La Canada Flintridge which sits at the base/foothills of Mt, Wilson. Highway 2, the Angeles Crest Highway were a lot of movies are filled (such as the mountain case scene in Mission Impossible), is the main highway up to Mt. Wilson were the fire originated.

Mt. Wilson is not that high up (only about 1/2 of the elevation of the highest peaks in the San Gabriels), but it has one of the best broadcast locations to most of SoCal.

The fires is expected to reach the towers by noon. They say those with satellite or cable should not be effected since uplink occurs from another source.

The bigger issue is that these are also the main communication towers as well. Cellphone towers and even more importantly, antennas used by emergency personnel.

Those outside of the LA market that have KTLA through the supperstation package or other LA networks through a DNS service can watch the fire live as it approaches the antennas.

From CNN I gather the fire has not reached the antennas/observatory yet. Any better local info available?
