This is a musical through and through. 99.99% singing, very few spoken words, everything is said via singing. I was a touch disappointed by the lack of big production musical songs, it was mostly solos with a few duets.

The costumes and sets remind one of how bad the living conditions were in the early 1800s - the poor were really miserable and wretched. I know that it was the theme of the movie, but living conditions of everyone but the very wealthy were pretty poor.

I do not really see it taking best picture, but until the list is released who knows what it is up against.

Anne Hathaway won best supporting for this performance. Well deserved, a very bright spot in the movie.
