Cool!

I am VERY looking forward to this Ryder Cup after this:

After all that's happened to Tiger Woods in the last year, after the Escalade and the fire hydrant and the "transgressions" and the apologies and the tantrums and the divorce and the godawful play, we may have lost sight of an important fact: It's not that long ago that Woods was the best golfer on the planet, bar none. And thus, it may not be the wisest move, tactically speaking, for his competitors to get him riled up again.

Later this week, Woods and the 11 other best golfers of the United States will challenge their European counterparts in the Ryder Cup, a biennial tournament that's far closer in atmosphere to an SEC football game than, say, the Masters. The competition is cutthroat, the galleries are raucous, and there's actually trash-talking. No kidding. In golf.

Rory McIlroy, the Irish wunderkind, kicked off the verbal sparring a few weeks ago when he told the BBC he "would love to face" Tiger one-on-one in the Ryder Cup. "Unless his game rapidly improves," McIlroy said, "I think anyone in the European team would fancy their chances against him."

Fancy this, Mr. McIlroy: Woods heard your challenge. When asked at a press conference about McIlroy's comment that he'd love to face Woods one-on-one, Tiger leaned forward and offered a terse reply:

"Me too."

Not bad. Not quite an instant classic like Ivan Drago's "I must break you" from Rocky IV, but it'll do for golf's purposes.

Woods has obviously known about McIlroy's comments for several weeks -- there was a rumor going around a tournament a couple weeks back that Woods told McIlroy "careful what you wish for" -- but, as always, Woods only speaks publicly when he absolutely has to.

The U.S. and European teams will play two days of team golf for 36 holes on Friday and Saturday. (The Friday rounds will take place during the morning in the United States; if you're at work, be sure to bookmark Yahoo! Sports' Devil Ball Golf and follow our live chat.) The two teams only play head-to-head singles matches on Sunday. Even that's a blind draw, so McIlroy only has a one-in-12 chance of facing Woods.

But the golf gods have a way of making these things work out for the best, so don't be surprised to see Woods and McIlroy head to head. And if that happens, save a prayer for McIlroy, whose mouth may have written a check his scorecard can't cash.

A lot of rain hindering play. It was suspended due to all the rain, don't know if they will play any more today or not.

I saw some this morning and the conditions are terrible to play. I do not understand WHY they plan these events during the rainiest time of the year in those parts of the world.

I would not walk my dog in those kind of conditions, let alone play golf. ALSO, the players state the wet/dry clothing that was offered to them is not keeping them dry and is getting them wet. LOL!

Bummer. I am hoping to see plenty of early morning play this weekend. Personally, I enjoy difficult course conditions and plenty of wind...but nobody wants to see the world's best playing in the rain.

It's one thing to play in rain....OR wind. But playing in rain going sideways and barely above 50 degrees....? Like I said, I would have more consideration for my dog.

The U.S. rain gear at the Ryder Cup is no longer a fashion faux pas.

They don't even work.

In another embarrassing moment, a U.S. team drenched at Celtic Manor had to buy new rain suits from the merchandise tent during the delay Friday because the ones they brought with them didn't keep them dry.

"We were disappointed with the performance of them and we just fixed it," captain Corey Pavin. "They were not doing what we wanted them to do, so we went out and bought some more waterproofs."

Sun Mountain supplied the American team with the rain gear -- navy blue, with stripes around the arms and left leg, with last names stitched on the back above "USA." They looked like they belonged to a college basketball team.

I was up early this morning and I watched the completion of 1st-round matches. Although it was clear and sunny, it sure was cold. I grew-up in Michigan and played/caddies in some bone-chilling weather. However, it was strange to see the tournament players wearing skullcaps.

Well, Tiger and Phill really sucked but the USA held on for a 1-point lead through the 1st round. I'm about 3-hours behind real time, but I should catch up in a couple hours. Watching golf (like all sports) is so much better when recorded on the DVR. Anyway, the fans are very loud and the players seem motivated to perform - should be a great weekend. I just hope Tiger and Phil can get it going. Oh, man I hate this "alternate shot" format...not all that keen on team best ball...but love individual match play.

Tiger came back and won 5 and 4 later in the morning. Phil has been horrible losing TWICE today.

I am sorry, but Phil has NOT been that good since Tiger's down fall and it has continued here in the Ryder.

What a turn of events on the 17th hole with Cink sinking a 25-foot birdie putt and McIlroy missing a 6-footer after McDowell stiffed his tee-shot. It looked like we were going to lose this point, but the worst we can do is half it. Stunning!

Go USA! :flag:

I have be ESPECIALLY impressed with how well the USA rookies have played.

go USA indeed!:usa :up

The US pairings are all down early in this 3rd session...but still a long way to go. It's odd how Woods-Stricker are the underdogs to Westwood-Donald in their alternate-shot match. I don't mind this format or the 4-ball format...but bring on singles match play.

Darkness could not fall any sooner over in Wales today with the US Team behind in all six (6) ongoing matches. Hopefully, they can regroup and come up fresh tomorrow morning.

Sticker missing short puts for birdies...Phil is stinking up the place. Thankfully, our rookies like Bubba and Overton .....who just chipped in for and eagle to win the hole...are keeping the USA afloat.

Add Tiger to stinking up the place too - disappointing performances by our top-ranked veterans. Anyway, it looks like we need Watson, Overton (who is playing brilliantly), Johnson, Kuchar and Fowler to pick-up the slack. We're in big trouble going into the singles matches if we don't manage to win 2 or these 6 matches.

The Team made a valient comeback (e.g., Michelson-Fowler squaring it up after being 3-down and Watson-Overton squaring it up too) but they have been strugging in the final holes. The maches are still very close and, with luck, we can tie it up-8-8 going into the final 12 singles matches.

Hey, did anyone noticed that Rickie Fowler has this Prince Farquaad thing going on with his hair?
