Level 3 Communications Inc. will supply broadband network services to provide bandwidth and data to expand high-definition television (HDTV) for DirecTV Group Inc., the companies announced Thursday.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Level 3 will provide backbone to support and aggregate HDTV signals from local markets for rebroadcast to the satellite TV provider's customers.

Broomfield-based Level 3 (NASDAQ: LVLT) has worked with El Segundo, Calif.-based DirecTV (NYSE: DTV) since 1999 on providing private lines that support standard-definition TV services.

Level 3 also provides HDTV support services in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
