LG's curved OLED displays to arrive in the second half of 2013

Alongside its wafer-thin 4K TVs, LG's curved OLED display was another product that occupies a special place in our CES memories. Fortunate, then, that the product has taken a step away from vaporware, with the company's Vice President of Home Entertainment Europe, Thomas Lee, confirming that its "world-first" curved OLED TVs will launch in the second half of this year.

We’ve been telling you about OLED TV for quite some time. Now, LG Electronics is going to start shipping another one of these coveted sets.

However, this isn’t your typical OLED TV, but one with a curved screen. The company is now taking orders in South Korea for the 55-inch 55EA9800 Curved OLED TV. Priced at $13,500, the TV will ship to that side of the world starting next month.

The 55-incher will join LG’s flat-screen OLED TV, which began shipping to Korean customers back in February.

What is the attraction? It seems like it would reduce a large screen TV to only being optimal for a single person (or a pair of siamese twins).

If you are going to spend $13,500 on a 55" set, chances are good that you are buying it for yourself!

Perhaps they could do just the opposite having the bend outwards instead of inwards. This would help with viewing angles if any such issue were to exist.

I look forward to the day when the screens are flexible then you can have it flat or curved any way you want it and it be so light weight that you can take it with you. The next step beyond that is adjustable screen size, for televisions, phones and tablets.

A set of these would make for an awesome racing simulator. I can't even imagine having those in front of me while playing Gran Turismo 5.

I can see televisions/monitors/screens change in how we purchase them in that we would be able to purchase them in squares and create our own size. Kind of like legos, plugging each piece into each other. I can also see different sized squares. If something like this was done then it would make things very flexible. You could use the displays/squares as a television, tablet, phone, watch, etc. placing them anywhere. You wouldnt need any connections to it because everything would be wireless such as charging it, receiving and sending data wifi/bluetooth.
