[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif] Also there was Dan Silverberg, VP of high-definition media for Warner Home Video, which since Paramount’s move to the HD DVD camp is the only studio to support both next-generation formats.

That may not be for long, Silverberg said. “One thing that may be changing is our strategy,” he said.
“When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide — so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter.”

Silverberg noted that Warner has the top-selling Blu-ray title of all time with 300 and is consistently No. 1 or No. 2 in both Blu-ray sales market share and in number of Blu-ray titles in the market.

“We can definitely talk Blu-ray,” he said. “We are committed to the format.” At the Monday morning kickoff, the featured speaker was David Berman, director of Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), a buying consortium of 62 dealers and 800 installers with combined revenue of more than half a billion dollars a year. He said the HTSA supports Blu-ray because a member survey found 92% favoring Blu-ray over HD DVD.

Well, I was hoping this would be kept quiet until the official word was out. That way, it's a much more satisfying BAM! when we get to see the look of shock in some people's eyes. So to speak.

Satisfaction will be felt, after putting up with all the verbal abuse, the word games, the spreading of FUD while accusing others of doing so, the "creative" math, the claims that Dolby and others wasted their money in developing higher audio standards, the insistence that Paramount marketing BS is truth, the fantasy that the rest of the world doesn't matter since they'll use whatever method the U.S. picks (but only AFTER Europe and AustralAsia went Blu), the denial of the utility of Blu-ray data backups for certain segments of the market, ignoring BD PC burners being on the market while claiming they want to be able to copy any disc they have, the hope that all copy protection will be broken despite the likely result being fewer movies released (hurting us all), the utter disregard of the value of the format being used in camcorders and other products and the resulting synergy, the insistence that "good enough" is what matters - in a new field dedicated to BETTER PQ & AQ! And that's not a comprehensive list.

Of course, nothing firm is out yet. And Warner may yet stay neutral. But they ain't likely to go HD DVD exclusive, especially after Paramount tried to BS everyone into thinking they outsold Warner's 300 in the first week of each. The day is fast approaching. I expect unless the 4th Q brings a few miracles to the HD DVD camp (beyond a one trick wonder), we'll be getting news in Q1 2008, maybe in January. Just how high will the Blu-ray to HD DVD sales ratio go this last quarter?

Perhaps the war would have been over by now, with a Blu-ray win, if it hadn't been for Sony being a major player in Blu. Sony, a company we all know and "love." NOT.

Maybe seminole's got me excited! :bounce

Well, ya know, Transformers was supposed to SPANK us. Guess what, that did not happen.

Warner is going to go BD exclusive by years end( best set of releases on HDDVD and BD out there), which is going to knock HDDVD down a notch(as if transformers NOT winning was not enough).

If you have half a brain at all, FOX, DISNEY and Warner Bro's are WAY more than enough to support ONE format.

Indeed it looks like bad news for BD. All the references to hardware prices dropping indicating huge sales for HD DVD this xmas season. Warner will take that as an indication of what the consumer wants. Like Navychop I was hoping they would keep it quiet longer and just went "BAM" and dropped Bluray. Now the smurfs have a warning.

I'm neutral on the format war...I have both...PS3 and a HD DVD player...there are so many smoke screens thrown out there you have no idea what to believe. The bottom line is $$$ and where ever these companies feel they can make the most $$$ they will go. I will say this I bought a PS3 for the blu ray...and if it tanks it can still be used as a game system...the stand alone hd dvd i bought for 199 and feel that if it tanks I got a good upconverting dvd player for a price that I could stand to eat. At 500 bucks it will take a while for me to finish eating that one.

I think it is just hilarious that there are two different threads on this site dedicted to Warner, both citing articles from other places and both pretty much saying the exact opposite thing...

I believe the fail of HD-DVD would be because Microsoft didn't include a HD-DVD player inside the console.
At least thats the only reason BD is winning over HD-DVD.
How would this impact microsoft?
Lets talk about Xbox 3?

Warner is going to do what is in the best interest of Warner to do. And right now -- we do not really know what that is going to be. BD supporters would like to think that Warner would stop support HD-DVD and the HD-DVD crowd wants to believe that Warner is going to go HD-DVD exclusive.

Here is a sobering thought: if Warner went HD-DVD exclusive it would not end the format war. Sony, Fox, Disney and MGM provides plenty studio support to keep BD going as those 10 manufacturers of BD players do. Now if Warner went BD exclusive it would more then likely put an end to HD-DVD as a HD movie standard. Universal, Paramount and Dreamworks is not enough to float HD-DVDs boat -- they just do not have enough muscle at the boxoffice.

I personally prefer the studios that sony is with, well I should say the movies that come out for it.
I like Transformers, but thats about it.
