Justh south of Quebec City is it possible to receive Hispasat 1C and 1D on Ku Band ? Some stations are beam to America but I'm not sure of the size of the dish I need since I'm located somewhere between 41 and 43 db on the map here: http://www.hispasat.com/FlotaSat/pop_up_cobH1C-3.htm
Since these two sats are at the same position (30 W) do I need 2 lnb?

Also for Ku-Band, I have the same question of minimal size dish required for,
Telstar 12: http://www.loralskynet.com/glb_fleet_12.asp
and
Atlantic Bird 3: http://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/5wab3_popd.html#
I'm not sure that I understand the maps correctly.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I use a 36" dish and standard KU LNBF here in the Twin Cities to pick up Hispasat 1C/1D. I get a signal quality of around 70% : )

One LNBF will pick up both satellites at the same orbital position.

Does not look good looking at the Atlantic Bird 3 footprint. Telstar 12 is also just out of my reach.

I would think you would be close to hitting the horizion at some point.

OK, I'll ask. Are you trying to get some of the adult channels off those sats? I would be very interested to see what you get if that is what you are after. Hopefully I am not offending you, but apparently there is some adult stuff on unenencrypted in the late night, but I think all of those channels are on the Europe and Africa spot.

Hopefully you all don't think I am a perv now.

No problem, I don't search for porn... ;)

I had to move one of my two dishes last year because of a growing tree branch and this spring I would like to use this unused plate on the roof to put another ku dish on it but I'm limited by trees. I think my best hope would be G10R, but I asked for the others satellite by curiosity. i'don't think i can catch them here they are too low...

I don't want a motor, too expensive for the numbers of sat that I can catch here.

If i cannot received G10 either, one of my last choice would be AMC3 87W but it is close to 91W (I'm a Bell Expressvu subscriber) where my problem occured last year. Where I must install the dish, I cannot receive any sat between 88 and 110W, I think.
If not, these are my very lasty choice: PAS-9 for Cubavision The others sat don't have more than 2-8 channels and some are very old sat (like SBS-6 launched in 1990!) I don't want to point a dish on a diying bird!

Any suggestions for any other satellite which can offer signifiant FTA programming would be welcome...

Ok! that could be another choice.
Sports feeds only the week-ends or some channels are on the air during the week too?
Do you know if another sat is scheduled to replace it in a near futur?

The only item on SBS6 24/7 is Ohio News Network
11742 H 6616

Satellite still works fine for sports :)

As for G10, its a 17 degree angle in Quebec City

It is possible to get...may be a little hard if there is a tree in the way

Thanks! On SBS-6, the majority of available feeds are DVB or NTSC?
I ask because I only have DVB.

both

depeding on the sport and who is carrying it
-hockey is mostly on DVB
-college football is split between both (some smaller colleges use analog)
-college basketball is more DVB

Here you can see my Bell expressvu dish and the unused plate on the roof where I want to mount the third dish. For G10R I think I need a very long vertical pole because of 17 degrees inclination. Does the electrical black pole can cause obstruction of signal from G10R, or will it be too close of the dish to cause problem?

Wait a minute! That tree will be your main problem getting G10R by the looks of the picture! You may have to put the dish way over to where the picture was taken to get any chance to hit G10R. Hard to tell with a picture, worth a try anyway. If it does not work you could always swap dish locations. You don't want any more holes in that roof if you can avoid it!

Thanks! I will work on it during april or may, (we have residual snow here), and give a feedback on the forum after my installation will be done.

you forgot soccer :(

soccer is almost always analog and is often found on AMC9 @ 83w

I appreciate this kind of additional informations, thanks again! :)

if you could take a couple more pictures (different angles), then we could get a better understanding and can see the clearances and obstacles you have.

I ran a couple numbers and G10 is at 255 azimuth (taking +15 magnetic into consideration)...so the dish aims almost straight east

(I was using Quebec City as a point...if you're a little south the numbers should be the same)

I do not have actually a kodak but here are 2 others photos from last year installation:
1: This was the 91/82 dish (Expressvu) position (now with unused plate) where I want to mount a dish for G10R at 123W...is it too close of the black pole (electrical entry)?

2: a greater view of the back of the house: the dish on the left is on 97W (IA5), also on the left you see the famous pine tree who cause me problem on 91W last spring, with the growing of the branch I dont't think amc3 87W would be possible neither..

Now from what you see, what chance I have for G10R? if needed, it will be possible for me to cut some branches on the pine tree on the right of the picture, but not the one on the left cause it's too high and I should have to pay a "cutter guy" for that. It's also impossible to me to make others holes on the roof...I would be expulse from the house !... :)
