Model 4000

What good is a model 4000 receiver? Will it work with a Dish 500? I am thinking about putting it at the lake house. What channels will it receive?

Receiver is kind of outdated, but it will work with the traditional dish 500 and would be able to subscribe to any sd package. Depending on how long it has been inactive, it may need a new smart card. A call to Dish would fix that.

While it would work, I would expect that you could get a more modern SD only receiver for next to nothing as well.

The Electronic Program Guide would probably not hold all the channels, since the memory is quite limited. They may not activate that model anymore, either.
