We will be moving to another city in the next few months and i was wondering how long do I have to be away from Dish to be considered a new customer. We have been with Dish for at least 15 years and could just do the moving thing, but it seems like we could get a better deal as new customers as far as price and equiptment. Is this true? We will be extremely busy and will not be watching much tv between now and then so a simple cable hook-up would meet any tv needs. We will be up-grading our receivers in either situation, so a new contract will be in the works either way. What I am asking is do I do myself any good starting over as a new customer?

Takes three months before you would be considered a new sub again. At least I think it is 3 months now. You could sign up under you wife's name at the new house, if she hasn't been listed before on your current account. Or you could Call and see what DISH would offer if you move and want to stay under you current account.

It had been 90 days but I was corrected by a DIRT member and told that it's been changed to 60 days now. Regardless, it's not too bad of a wait.

I thought existing customers can upgrade to a Hopper and Joey for $0 to $50 ? If that's the case, upgrade your receivers now. When you move, use Dish Mover to get the new dish installed.

What other "deals" do new customers get ? I can tell you this, from experience, getting the (3) months of movie channels, etc that they offer as part of Dish Mover is a joke. You do NOT automatically get them - you have to ask, multiple times, and even then, you probably won't get everything.

Signing up as a new customer is almost always going to be the best deal unless you have a bunch of recordings that you don't want to lose. If a customer is not a Plan A then they would have to pay anywhere from $50 to $100 for a Hopper and $100 to $200 for a Hopper with Sling. Also, depending on how a customer is rated they may have to pay $50 for each Joey.

Now, if you sign up as a new customer a Hopper and up to 3 Joeys are free. If a customer wants a 2nd Hopper they would have to pay $49 for the regular and $99 for the Sling version. It gets confusing that's for sure.
