Noticed this from day one.

100 hours free.

record a 1 hour show,

now, 94 hours free.

Record a 3 hour show,

now, 82 hours free.

and so on and so on.

I had about 30 hours free.

Deleted a 4 hour olympic session

and it said = 47 hours free!

Did the guy who taught my dvr math not pass the 3rd grade? WTF is going on here

The 1 hour = 1 gig on the hard drive is an optimistic generalization. The more action that is occurring on the screen, the bigger the file will be. So a 2 hour football game will take up more space than a 2 hour poker game (unless the camera moves A LOT during the poker game).

LoL, well thank u for telling me that.

That does seem a bit ridiculous doesn't it?

:)

So technically this 100 hour recorder doesnt actually record 100 hours of a high movement show.

False advertising?

Not really false advertising... it says up to 100 hours... and in the manual itsays this is an estimate. Also note that if you record anything in dolby digital double its length will be taken away.

lol, alright thanks guys :) so basically i have a 50 hour recorder, not 100.

On average, I usually observe that a 2 hour shows requires 2-1/2 to 3 hours of disk space. If I'm calculating in my head "will this group of shows fit into what I have left", I use 1-1/2 times the actual show length in the calculation.
