DirecTV has netted a multiyear agreement with NBA TV that will expand distribution of the pro basketball league's in-house service on the No. 1 DBS operator.

The agreement, terms of which were not disclosed, will see NBA TV move to DirecTV's Choice Xtra package from its Premier Package and Sports Pack, tipping off with the 2009-10 NBA season next fall. As such NBA TV will be moved to channel 216 from channel 601 as part of the extended partnership, which should result in it being available to an additional 8 million DirecTV homes.

Through this new pact, DirecTV, which has carried the service since it tipped off in 1999, will increase NBA TV's distribution, providing the network in standard and high-definition, while continuing to provide the out-of-market NBA League Pass to its customers. As part of the subscription package, fans will have access to games online at no additional cost through NBA League Pass Broadband

is that the old package which is now called total choice extra?

The NEW pkg, which did replace Total Choice Plus, is now just called Choice Xtra (there never was a "Total Choice Extra" that I know of) ;)

And I'm pretty sure it'll be included in that older pkg as well, since every channel that is now already in Choice Xtra, OR has been added to it, has always been getting added to TC+ as well.

thanks chip. so to answer DK's question it should be included for the grandfathered package to.
It was already part of that package anyway. It looks like the few extra channels I get for the grandfathered lower priced package is becoming fewer and fewer.

One nice thing about Total Choice Plus was the fact that I was paying less for more channels, which always include the NBA channel anyway.

It was in TC+ when it first came on, but then was removed.

ok, so D* is going to move NBA TV and just recently gave us CBS sports college HD. what are the chances for ESPNU HD before football season? I heard there might be a switch of ESPNU HD and ESPN classic!!! That would be awesome. I guess D* would have to rearrange the sports pak?

Awesome news! I never understood why NBA-TV was limited to the Sports Pack in the first place.

MLB, NHL and NFL all have their own networks available on the Choice Tiers. It only makes sense for NBA-TV to follow suit.
