Here and Now
I'm helping my girlfriend figure out the best satellite TV package for her and her daughter. They have 3 TVs: 2 HD and one standard in the daughter's room.

With the BronzeTurbo HD package, it looks like she can get 2 HD receivers, one of which would serve the SD TV in the daughter's room for $21.99/mo. after the 6-month $20 discount ($41.99 thereafter). At that price, would she be able to get two 211's, one of which she can convert to a DVR by attaching an external HD for $39.99? Are there other fees involved I'm missing?

Also, has there been any new word on whether Nick HD will get added to BronzeTurbo at some point, as that might be a deal breaker?

I'm open to suggestions about other Dish or DirectTV options, with the after-promo price not to exceed $50 (if possible) and the understanding that HD would be nice, but by no means necessary as the primary purpose of the TV service would be to give her daughter a good selection of channels, including Disney and Nick.

Thanks in advance for your help.

keep in mind you cannot get a sd solo receiver any more (no more 311's 301's) with new connects.

best option if price is a concern is a 222 and 211. this will give you two hd tvs and one sd tv, and have the 211 installed where you want dvr to be if you do the external harddrive option later on.

you can be at 56.99 this way, if you can plug the 222 to a phoneline

bronze 100/locals 39.99
bronze hd 10.00
additional rec 7.00

total 56.99

its 7.00 bucks hire then expected, but in the ball park after the 6 month promo. keep in mind this gives the daughter the nick channels and many more.

if you cannot plug the 222 to a phoneline, then the price is 61.99. at this point, get a 722 and a 211. with the 722, you can get on DDA100 with locals for 44.99, which is 5.00 mores, but with dda you do not pay the phoneline fee, so it balances out. this will give you dvr on one hd tv and on the second sd.

If you think "Best" and Cheapest" are interchangable, she's not going to be your girfriend for very long. :D

Good point, lol. Actually "cheapest" is for her, as it's her dime, and best is for me, who would like some quality TV when I visit beyond what the family packages for Dish and Direct offer (the one for Dish is particularly lame, though it's the cheapest, and my GF has already ruled it out as an option.)

Good to know. I need to take a closer look at their different receiver specs. I wasn't sure if they give you a receiver option with these promo packages.
