Need some help

I'm trying to connect a phillips dvd recorder model 3400 to a dish dvr 625 then to a hitachi 55hdx99 plasma. should be simple enough, but for whatever reason i do not get any picture. i've tried all sorts of combinations, s-video, coax, rca plugs and nothing. does anyone have a diagram i could use or some advice? thanks
