With the new $199 VIP622 upgrade deal where you get the $100 in 10 $10 credits plus the $100 for returning the 942, can you keep the 942 and not get the $100. I would prefer to keep the 942 and use it on another non HD TV just for the DVR fuction.

So if you don't return it, would they let you keep it activated?

I just did this with my 921. I ordered the 622 and paid $199. I will get my $100 in monthy credits for the programming. I told the CS rep I was replacing my 301 with the 622 and he had no issues with it. I'm scheduled for a 6/15 install and update this thread when it's activated.

I would be doing the same thing. I have a 301 that I am leasing that I would send back to them. Since I will be moving the 942 to a location that has only one Sat feed, can the 942 be operated with just one sat feed or is their a spliter that can be used for the 942 with only one feed?

It depends on your antenna set-up. If you have Dish Pro Plus (DPP) LNBFs you can do exactly this with a DPP Separator. If you don't then the answer is no. You would need to run another line. However, if you are getting the 622 upgrade, that should mean they are coming out to install a DISH 1000 (included in the upgrade price) which is DPP.

I was able to trade in my 6000 and a 4700 for a 25$ credit on each receiver with the 10 months of 10$ credit. I was able to keep my 942. Total upgrade fee of only 50$ after credits and return of receivers.

And when speaking of one satelite feed, Dish will install a 1000 that will allow what lakebum states that will allow both the 622 and 942 to operate off each feed from the 1000.

I'd NEVER get rid of a 921 or 942 for $100. I'd sell them on ebay or to someone on here first. The going prices for the 921 right now is $200-350 and for the 942 is $325-350 on ebay.

It seems like the 622 was the replacement for the 942 and the 612 is a replacement for the 921 in a sense. I can see Dish Network swapping the 942 with a 622 and a 921 with a 612 when the MPEG-4 conversion happens unless they have a whole new lineup of receivers by then (or if they are smart enough a hub - media center of sorts - with upgradable slots like a computer for expansion).

I have a DP34. Is it a DPP?

I am in Dallas with one 500 for sat 110 and 119 and another 500 for 61.5. Other people in Dallas have been able to stay with this setup and avoid the 1000.

You should have sold the 6000 on Ebay. Going price is about $350.

I've seen posts here that dish will no longer activate 921's or 942's. If that's the case they would be worthless to sell.

DP34's are not DPP switches.

I know the 921 can be used with one SAT feed so I'm sure the 942 will be the same.

Just saw your question. the DP34 is not a "plus" switch, so you would need two lines or you would need to replace your LNBFs with DPP.

Did the cs rep want you to return the 301? Going give you anything for it? Did you own or lease the 301?

Or replace your DP34 with a DPP 44 switch.

I own my 301 and I never inquired about returing it.

They will activate a 942 on any account, but unless you are already subscribed to the HD pack ,or Voom, the only HD channels you will get are the OTA ones.

So it still does have a pretty good value.

I am in CT and have a Dish 500 and another Dish 500 pointed at 61.5. Is it worth it when they come do my install for the 622 to upgrade to the Dish 1000. Currently I have a 942, 811 and 501 which use 4 outputs. Is getting a DPP LNB a good move or is it better to keep the two dishes since all my HD is on 61.5.

If you subscribe to one of the metals with a 622, will the MPEG2 HD channels still come in on 942 on the same account?

I was just told on the phone by a very nice Michelle in Tech Support that if I swapped my 301 for the 622 (instead of swapping out my 942) that because of the metal pack update, my 942 would become a standard box, receiving only SD stations and OTA HD.

Doesn't sound right, but that's what she said...perhaps I should call back later.
