It just showed up on my Hopper 3 on September 29th. My local market is Columbus, Ohio. I agree that before it was probably only available in select markets.

It shows up for me in the Dayton OH market. I don't know what others see, but all I get is a button for the weather channel along the bottom - both national and local option - a 'find location' button, and "info" (IIRC). In the top 3/4 pane, it scrolls 'local' news headlines but I didn't find a way to select one of them to 'read' (nor did I try hard).

And I for one, will not go back to involuntarily watching commercials. If I can't DVR it, I'll DVR OTA programming and find other forms of entertainment.

For example, I have this dead tree titled "Churchill, taken from the diaries of Lord Moran." Very enjoyable. Until someone turns me in to the firemen....

Same here, I DVR everything just to avoid a commercial. I looked last night and I have 93 timers. Where some are absolutely a need to be able to read it but still

When I bring up the local app it starts loading content. It gives me local weather, Columbus traffic detailing any traffic events, departures and arrival information on John Glenn Airport, short snippets of national and local news, local sports scores, statistics and headlines and a lot of coffee shop advertising. Obviously the coffee shops are sponsoring the channel. I wonder if the sponsorship will change periodically.

It reminds me of the local channel that Time Warner cable had.
