I just got off the phone with the csr, I told her that I need Dish in four rooms. I would like one standard dvr, one hddvr and two standard receivers. She told me that all I would need are the two dvr's and that they will back feed the other tv's. If this is done, will I still be able to record two shows and watch one on the dvr's?? Also, my house is wired with DTV now, until the 30th. I hope they will be able to just use my existing set up. Any comments, suggestions, please?? :)

For once a CSR is correct. If both DVRS are dual tuners then they will backfeed your other 2 tvs to provide a independant tuner for 4 tvs.

If you go with 2 DVRs then use they can easily use your DTV setup and install a dish pro plus LNB. If you go with 4 receivers you would most likely need a DPP44 switch if you have only single cable runs on your DTV wiring. The Dual tuner DVRs need 2 feeds. DPP44 are next to impossible to get right now, thus you would most likely have to run a second line in to where your dvrs would go and use 2 DP 34 switches.

The DVR has 2 tuners in one box. You can record on one tuner and watch with the other or record on both but you must watch what you are recording. You can use the two tuners however you wish but there is only 2. If you go with 2 dvrs though you could record 3 programs between them at once and still watch live programming on 1 of them. This way also saves the $10 a month receiver fee you would have with 2 more receivers.

There are pros and cons to both ways.

Not necessarily. Depending on where you live, you would probably just need either a DP+ Twin or a DP+ Twin/DP Dual combo.

DP+ Twin will allow two dual-tuner receivers to be fed by just one line apiece.

As a D*Tivo owner and E* installer, I'll bite on this one. with 2 DVRs, you will be getting 4 tuners. As per your original request, you would have 6 Tuners. E* does not like folks to have more than 4, and they make it a pain in the ass (see the audit police threads).

As they outlined it:

You will be able to use the DVR from any TV in your house. You can record/watch 4 live programs MAX.

That means that if you had 4 shows recording at once, whomever is in the room that you didn't want the DVR in will have to watch what is being recorded OR something from the hard drive.

Keep in mind that you will be going from 6 Tuners on D* to 4 on E*. Depending on your useage, this may be an issue for you.

If you feel you need 6 tuners, call E* to see what kind of hoops they want you to jump through BEFORE the installer gets there. I load my truck based on what is on the work order, not every possible contingency the customer might throw at me.

The "equipment" issue we face has already been noted on this thread.

Thats what I said in my thread. If you go 2 dvrs then a DPP Twin would work fine. But if you want to run the 4 boxes then you will need a use a DPP 44 switch in order to use the seperater as he already has existing cable runs which I assume are single cable. If not you will have to run 2 cables to where the dvrs will go and use DP34 switches which would not be too fun to install.

Bill if you have 2 DVR's with D* and they are installed properly, then you already have two lines going to the current DVR locations. Also the two standard D* reciever locations already must have a coax going to them. So.... as far as using the existing coax.. sounds like a no brainer. Bonus on top of it all is if you have the Phase III dish with your current set up then you already have four coax coming from the dish. So, in my oppinion, have the installer use three DISHPro Plus Duals and a 34switch if you are getting the Dish1000 instead of the DishProPlus Twin. Alot less connectors inline to go bad i.e. seperators. If you are in a SuperDish area the installer will use a 34switch anyway... again as long as your D* DVR's are installed proberly your current setup will be okay. Also... Do yourself a favor and call a lovcal retailer/dealer.

Wow, you guys know your poop!! Of course I have know Idea what you are talking about when you say ; DPP44 switch, DISHPro Plus Duals and a 34switch, Dish1000 , DishProPlus Twin. LOL!!

Both of my dvrs are installed properly and I have two lines going to them. On top of that I have two stanard recivers. Yes I have a Phase III dish. I live in Hamilton NJ, so I would be getting the Philly locals. So what kinds or kind of dish would I be getting?

How about this, one hddvr, one standard dvr and one dish 322 Receiver. Would Dish go for that?? I need the two dvrs separate, my wife and I record ALOT of TV :)

Not sure they will allow that. If you want a HD DVR you will have to get a 622 which is a dual tuner receiver. The Standard DVR would also have to be a 625/522 which is also dual tuner. Dish no longer sends out single tuner DVRS to new customers that I am aware of. We cant even get em to replace defective units.

That would do 4 TVs right there so im not sure if dish would let you get another receiver. a 322 is also dual tuner non DVR, but I doubt they will lease 3 dual tuners to you.

Not sure where you live but with HD you will be getting a dish 1000 that hits the 110,119, or 129 birds. In some areas you may get 2 dish 500's if your locals are on 61.5 or cant see the 129.

Bill, Dish will allow you up to 4 rooms or tuners with free installation when you sigh up. If you want more then that you would have to purchase and pay for the installation of additional tuners. The 622 HDDVR and 625/522 DVR would be included in the four room install a 322 runs $149 cost - usually around $199 retail. DishProPlus allows a dual tuner to be ran off of one line with a seperator where as with DishPro you need two lines to run a dualtuner i.e your D* DVR'S.I would call a local dealer/retailer and see what they could do for you.... heck if it was me I would cut you a break as everything seems to be properly wired and basically no extra work.

He's right, Bill, if you want 6 tuners, you need to make a call. If you can find a good retailer, go for it, but I think MY first call would be to E*.

Thank you all so much for your help!! I'll let you know how I make out.

wobbie, you hit it right!! It seems to me that all the installer would have to do in my case it replace the dish, and connect three units.

Bill. Depending on how many tuners you go with there may be a switch needed. If you go with more then 4 tuners and the house is wired as you say it is the installer can get by with DishPro equipment and a 34 switch, maybe two 34switches depending what dish you need. They may try to tell you that you need a 44switch and those are running anywhere from $159.00 to $199.00 where as you can get the 34switch anywhere from $49.99 to $89.99. Keep us posted.
