On Tuesday's Tech Chat they broke the news that the new 6" PD is here and the 7" will be available in January.

Here's part of what they said about it.

"If you're not familiar with it, you connect it up to our boxes through the USB 2.0 port. And once that's done just follow the on-screen prompts and it'll tell you how to move selected high def... er selected STANDARD DEFINITION programing over to the Archos device."

Oops! I guess now for certain PD news doesn't belong in this forum.

But hey, if you have kids you can put their cartoons on your new PD and if you don't have kids you can put your porn on your new PD. So that's something, right?

ViP722 and PocketDish... Made for each other.

I love my PD. There were some bugs a few months ago with freezing the 622 receiver but that has been worked out. I don't care about HD on such a small screen (mine is the Archos 500e and has a 4" screen). It is so clear that you would want HD only if the program was not available on a SD channel. Except for Voom, those are few and far between. I also love the way I can down load my MP3 music files on a flash drive, plug it in the PD and listen to the collection in excellent sound. This also helps free up space on the PD for video only.

Today I am going to my hunting camp and this weekend we will watch a bunch of movies on the tv I have saved on the PD. Instead of fooling around with disks and dvd players, all I need for a weekend long showtime is my little PD and the hook-up cable. I can't imagine anyone with a compatible dish receiver not having one of these.

Poor things, Hope you are ready for the new ones coming out this Christmas. Nice, big, and thin baby. Upgraded drive, and one even has HD ability. If I had a use for it, I would be buying it.

Which one will have HD capability? Will it work with Dish network as far as transferring HD programs and scheduling?

800x480 is hardly the stuff that HDTV's are made of.

We have to be careful here to differentiate between the ability to display HD or playback HD.

There's just no point to hi-def resolution on a 4" screen. But to be able to play and downconvert to the screen is a different story.

Personally, I'd rarely use such a feature. I'd rather do the downconversion before sending the file to the PocketDish's puny HDD.

Sorry, there is no HD on any model.

Correct. THE POINT is that HD recordings can't be sent to any PD, old or new.

To use the PD you have to undertake a special project to make special SD recordings at a time when we all got HD DVRs to make HD recordings for our big flat panels.

Nearly all the recordings of favorite shows and stored movies are becoming HD recordings and *NOT* downloadable to *ANY* old or new PD, either Dish or Archos labeled for sale now or the first of next year.

If you want screen resolution, stay home and watch your plasma. But when you have to travel it would be nice to just to be able to *SEE*(at any resolution) the shows you have saved. That's what I want a Pocket Dish for. I can't afford $300 toys that have no real use in my day-to-day life on the road.

And think about this: No matter where you go there is always a TV that will show you SOMETHING. I want a PocketDish to show me MY shows.
