Hey all. I just switched over to Dish from Direct and have a couple questions and or concerns, im sure they have been answered before so sorry in advance.
1.First of I have a 722 and Im getting really annoyed because I cant figure out how to not have it display in the guide the standard and the HD channel. Obviously if a chanel has a HD feed I only want to see that version not a duplicate( Direct would only show the HD feed)
2.Anyway on the remote to program it to turn on/off the tv and the 722 with one push of the button( instead of hiting power for the tv and than power for the 722)
3.With Direct you could hit the record button twice and it would default to recording the series, it seems it takes longer to have this acomplished by dish-any shortcuts would be appreciated.
4. And last final question. When you look in the "movies section" it displays also all of the ppv, anyway to bring this up without displaying all of the ppv

Thanks for all the hrlp guys

Alright, let me take a shot at these here:

  1. You can either a favorites list or setup the locks. I, along with other users, find the locks more useful because you can lock out channels you don't get/want, but when a new channel comes online (ps, don't expect too much new from Dish; you only get let down), it will be in the guide. If you used favorites, you wouldn't see it until you added it to your favorites, in which case you need to keep an eye on these forums.
  2. Don't know; I use a harmony one.
  3. Don't know...
  4. Don't know; I don't use it...
Well, it would appear that I wasn't very helpful. I am sure someone will come along with some knowledge though...

Thanks for the "locking info". It seems as if your a bit let down by dish, I was hoping for a better time with them as compared with direct....

For the first question, try pressing the guide button multiple times. It will switch between All Channels All Subs and All HD. Maybe the last one is the one you want.

If your tv is set to power on and work with Dish, it will. RCA is one model that does, not sure which other ones do.

Only way to not see the ppv in the search is to select them under Locks, select Hide Locked and then to lock the receiver.

There is really zero reason to turn of the Sat Box.. The red TV button turns off your TV and that is really all that you need to do. There is no difference in power consumption with the Sat box on or off.. So No need to turn it off.. But no there is no way to make them both turn off with a single button with the existing remote. Get a Harmony if this really is needed..

Lock out the SD Duplicates. There is no option to hide SD Duplicates like there is on DirecTV.. Not a real big deal, but it would be nice if Dish would add this option.

The red record button will start the recording of the show you are watching, but not setup series like the DTV does. Just go to guide and set up series. Not really that hard.

And lastly the Movies section.. Pretty much of a waste anyway on Dish.. DirecTV has a "one up" on Dish on this one..

Each company has some good plus and minus things about it.. When you get used to the new DVR from Dish you will find things on it that you wonder why DirecTV didn't put on theirs so it will even itself out or even put it in a better category than the DTV DVR.. THe Dish DVR puts DirecTV's to shame in most categories..

I just went through and did the channel locks and locked out all the sd versions and they still show up in the guide. I went back to make sure they were still locked and they are in the setup but no go on the guide any ideas? j

Edit* Stupid me I didn't turn on the locks, duh. Disregard my stupidity.....
