DIRECTV 10 In-Orbit Testing UnderwayEL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 2007--The DIRECTV 10 satellite, launched on July 6, 2007, has been successfully placed in geo-synchronous orbit and is currently undergoing in-orbit testing. The testing process has confirmed that the satellite is fully functional to deliver all planned nationwide HD programming. This will enable DIRECTV to deliver up to 100 HD channels nationwide by year-end.
The DIRECTV 10 satellite's transponder payload also includes spot-beam capacity that will support the expansion of DIRECTV's local HD channel services. While testing of DIRECTV 10's capability continues, it appears that a portion of the anticipated spot-beam capability may not be fully available. The investigation to determine the cause of the reduced capability and potential means to mitigate its effect is on-going. However, we currently believe our planned expansion of HD local programming as previously announced will not be materially affected.
The launch of DIRECTV 11 is still scheduled for late this year or early next year, on a Sea Launch launch vehicle.
DIRECTV currently offers local HD broadcast channels in 60 cities, representing more than 70 percent of U.S. TV households. In addition, DIRECTV has agreements in place to rollout multiple HD channels from top content providers such as Disney, Discovery Communications, A&E Television Networks, HBO, Fox, Turner, NBC Universal, Showtime Networks, Starz and Scripps Networks, among others.

This sounds bad...

Is this what my contacts have been telling me about over the past 2 week when they kept telling me that the satellite had issues? That I honestly don't know I am not up to snuff on TLE's and how all that satellite stuff works. I do know however to receive signals. I leave the other stuff to the rocket scientists. :D

BTW When I mentioned the other day that I have heard that the DirecTV 10 satellite might have have some issue, I was quickly jumped on at another site for picking on DirecTV.

I just report what I hear, good and bad.

I don't make anything up, nor am I out to pick on any company. I just report the buzz I hear. If I hear buzz coming from a few different contacts then I am doing a disservice to you and all our other members and readers if I do not report what I am hearing.

Ultimately I am just a geek who enjoys this technology. I want you to get as much out of it as I get out of it. And I always enjoy learing more about this technology. After all, it's Satellite... It's out of this world!
