hello. how are you all? happy new year........here is the problem.....we had dish for quite a long time, but when u-verse was offered we engaged that to try it out.........it is much cheaper & runs much better since they sped up remote control response recently........even so, we kept the dish as well because we became addicted to the voom channels.......laugh all you want, we can't possibly be the only ones.........we wanted to cancel the dish, use u-verse & still access our 3 1TB external maxtors (maybe 6 or 7 hundred movies; mostly HD) as well. we own our dvr.
.........however, when we canceled the service (re-engaged the next day) the ability to access the externals quickly left the vip622......even when we just turned it off & unplugged the dvr this still occurred......we thought the usb upgrade was in firmware & was permanent...motorola says it is a feature available permanently as part of the 622 specifications, but it seems like dish is re-newing the use usb external command in volatile memory & not permanently when the service is no longer engaged......seems like extortion, doesn't it?
has anyone seen this problem before & do you know more about it than we do? of course we called dish, & they are clueless (surprise)

It's enabled for the account. If the account ceases, so does the "service".

It's crap, but that's the way it is.

solutions?

if this is not allowed or an inappropriate space for my next question, please don't get angry, just let us know, ..............is there a way around this horrible situation? remembering that we own our own unit.

I believe (with the exception of HBO) the programs are not encrypted on the internal 622 hdd. ;)
