Non-HD DVD

Now I know that a non-HD DVD will play on a HD player but will a HD DVD play on a regular player?

It won't. Unless it is a hybrid disc (HD DVD on one side or layer and standard DVD on another). I don't think initial titles will be hybrid discs.
