I've known a few people who were in a similar situation, where they owe'd a less than a dollar and refused to pay it either to make a statement because they felt like they were screwed over or because they just didn't want to take the time to make a payment for an amount so small. And then in a few months when notices from collection agencies came in the mail they bitched and moaned and threw a hissy fit. They had no one to blame but themselves, 110% their fault. If they would have just paid the 57 cents all would have been good, and it wouldn't have been an issue. Be an adult, be responsible. Pay your bills, pay them on time and in full and you won't have anything to worry and and you'll save a lot of aggravations and money in the future.
If you feel like making a statement, pay with a credit card so the company loses money on the transaction fee. Any other action is just stupid and will end up biting you and you'll blame everyone else but yourself for the aggravation.
