It may help with rain, but every thing else will stick to it. It makes a mess of the dish. Looks like tree sap all over the dish if you do that.
I have heard rain-ex being used. There is also a special spray made for dishes to keep snow off.

My issue is the saly air rather than snow. I use a good quality electronic silicone spray and it works well.
Bet that would work for snow too.

do whatever you want. The idea is to get the water off the dish before it ices up. Snow won't be a factor if it doesn't have ice to stick to. If your dish is where you can reach it or hit it with a sprayer, you can de-ice it with windshield deicer, but we only get snow once every two years down here, so I just do that.
Fucco can you post a link? I have the SWMLine 5 dish and live in NE Wisconsin. My dish is on my roof and think a heater might be helpful.

In 4 years with satellite, I've never had any issues with snow - and we do tend to get some snow. 
But I suppose there's a first time for everything...

I've tried the rain ex, no luck.
I've tried the stuff made for your dish ....Rain Fade solution, Dome Magic , doesn't work.
IF it's really a problem often, I would look into a dish heater.
I only have like twice a winter where I really would need it ... generally it's when we have heavy slushy snow.

What dish are you using and what heater ?
Does it activate by temp ?
If so, I don't want it, if it activates a different way, thats great. I don't want the dish heater running all winter, for the occasional bad snow we get.

I see it turns on at 35 and below and turns off at 55, this is a good thing.
I might have to look into a few of these.

also the wire that runs from the dish heater comes into my house. That is then plugged into a transformer box. The transformer box gets plugged into the electrical outlet. You can either unplug the box from the wall if u want or shut the transformer off via the switch on it. I flip the switch and shut mine down in april - november.
After last winter and it's 10ft of snow, I had almost Zero issues. I think downtime all winter maybe amounted to an hour.
Not bad considering several storms were two days in duration.
I've never used anything on any of the dishes in 12 years of service at the same house.
Why not wait and see what happens before dropping cash on something you may not need?
