Parent Made a big mistake signing up for Dish Network! Any help appreciated

Hopefully the phone company has a record of who the sales person was, and more importantly they have a recording of the phone call.

That's why I don't like when customers call Dish or some other phone sales agent to sign up for Dish. They care more about just making the sale, they won't have to deal the customer again so why do they care. Talk to someone who you know you can talk to again, thjey seem to try harder since they'll have to deal with keeping you happy.

Since the whole deal was done through the phone company (Does Verizon bundle Dish?), he should cancel through the phone company, not Dish.
And, hopefully, they used a credit card, so if they try and charge something to cancel, they can dispute the charges and most likely win based on the salesperson's deception/incompetence. Credit card companies generally side with the consumer in these matters.

Depending on where in NY the parents live, they might wanna check out the cable offerings for TV and Internet. They often have decent bundle pricing, including "triple play" packages with phone. (They can keep their current number.) But, personally, I think they'll save more money and get more features using a VoIP service like Ooma or Vonage over whichever high speed internet they end up with.

I second the suggestion for a VOIP for their phone. We have OOMA and the cost is very reasonable. We pay just the taxes every month; no phone company charge.

Dish also does that, they have lied to me 2 times, and when I contact them they are just sorry for the false information, and then the Dirt Members end up giving me credits, but I still didn't have what I wanted at first...

To me happened when someone offered me the 922, as an offer, for $200 instead of $400, and also asked if the monthly fee was going to be $10 and he told me: No, it is $6 .
Then it was $10 and everyone was just sorry, Dirt gave me credits, but then the credits are over, and I was going to still pay the $10, so I changed the 922 for a 722, and I felt like losing my $200 that I paid for the 922 :(.

Good thing the contract will end in march and I'm switching to DTV.

Dish doesn't want unhappy customers. ERT or Executive Resolution Team can do more than our favorite DIRT members.
888-237-4278

Disagree, had an issue and talked to the ERT team twice over the course of 10 days and an email, nothing was getting done. Sent a PM to a DIRT member and the matter was resolved within a couple of hours...

And yes they should have done more due diligence in going over the guide but I guess they took the gentleman for his word, they are older and not at all tech savy.
This has nothing to do with being technically savvy. It has everything to do with being functional consumers and to insist that the elderly can't be responsible because they're old is not reasonable.

I believe the responsibility lies uniquely with the organization that took the order and it sounds like DISH wasn't involved in this instance.

The first call should be to the telco to find out how serious they are about not living up to their claims (or claims made on their behalf). The Attorney General's office should be the second call.

That is probably true. The "executive" team's function (and contact info) was abused by many people. Way too often, over the slightest issue -- that the customer made no effort to resolve with the 1st-level support -- people HERE said "contact the executive team! Here's the email address!". It became obvious that the ERT group chose which issues to handle and which ones to ignore (and good for them !).

Two calls were made, first to the telephone company which basically told us that its dish networks responsibility, we were transferred to dish who cancelled it and said they were going to investigate it further, will contact the attorney general as well as it seems as if the telephone company is telling everyone what they want them to here to get them hooked, the technician who came out for the internet stated that he hears this all the time how they have been promised this and that. I don't believe this nonsense that if the person you speak with tells you false information, that they should not be liable for that and basically void the contract, as part of the triple play they offered a bonus gift card and now even if they were only dissatisfied with the internet wouldn't be eligible for that either. My parents were also never given a contract to sign when it was installed. Hope no etf will be assessed.

On another point why is dish making the stupid decision of not carrying the Knicks, Rangers, Yankees and now I just read the Lakers, this seems idiotic, Parents wouldn't have cancelled if it was available as an add on package.

I understand 25mbps is overkill but they listed 6,12 and 25, 25 was only 5 more a month than 12, when they came out they said hmm you'd be lucky to get 5....

If they signed the electronic pad that the tech has when he completed the work, they signed the contract. Are you in the Rochester area? I know that Frontier bundles Dish with their DSL.

I don't if you named the phone company, but with ATT DSL, they may sell you speed "x" but they (used to, at least) monitor your line and provision your line at a speed that it's reliable at. For example, I sign up for 6m service but only 2.5m is stable, they change service to their 3m plan.

What were the costs to Dish to carry NY sports and what were the terms dictated by the NY sports providers upon Dish? That should be the question you should be asking. If the costs are terms were in line with all other RSN's across the US then yes I will agree, Dish acted stupidly. But if they asked unreasonably high rates for retransmission and had unrealistic terms in order to carry the retransmission, do you honestly want Dish to just roll overs to whatever NY sports demands?

Once again I wish these providers just allow a la carte choices. If NY sports wants an overpriced service then allow them to see how many really think their service is worth it.

Where did you get that from. You can not..... If you are counting on the Door to Door saleman law it does not apply unless the sale was made with no prior contact by the homeowner, by a primarily door to door sales company. Some people seem to think because you actually signed the contract in your home some magic law applies.

I'm assuming Yes Network and MSG wanted more than say fox ohio, but you are losing a much bigger fan base by not providing the knicks and yankees compared to say the Indians, so I don't believe that is a valid point, If this was the case I want to be able to opt out of paying for all the crappy channels I never watch that we are still paying for.

Dish does, believe it or not, carry a number of regional sports networks. If one were to speculate why YES and MSG aren't carried, and knowing Dish, I'd say that those (2) networks wanted "too much" money. How much is too much ? That's for Dish to decide....

Do you think Dish wouldn't pay the extortion if they thought it would increase their profit by doing so? It's so bad Direct assesses a surcharge to their subs. The current $3 surcharge to new subs is thought to barely cover the cost. Sports addiction is costly.

I believe the issue (as stated by Charlie) for YES is that they demanded to be in AT120 (which does not include RSNs). He said he offered YES the option of being available as an a la carte option for AT120 and they said no.
