Does anyone know if Dish will have PBS Sprout anytime soon? I’m hoping with the recent Viacom deal that they will, but I need something a little more reliable than hope. We’re moving to a new house soon and I have to decide on Dish or Directv within a couple of days. I would prefer Dish as they have more of the movie channels that I like; however, I’m sure my one year old son will miss Chica, Zoboo, Groove, et al if I go with Dish and Sprout is nowhere to be found. Any insight or inside information would be appreciated.

What station will your son be watching it on? Is it on an OTA subchannel of your PBS station?

I thought PBS Sprout is a Comcast channel in conjunction with PBS.

Wikipedia, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV_Networks"]MTV Networks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Manhattan_New_York_City_2008_PD_44.JPG" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ab/Manhattan_New_York_City_2008_PD_44.JPG/220px-Manhattan_New_York_City_2008_PD_44.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/a/ab/Manhattan_New_York_City_2008_PD_44.JPG/220px-Manhattan_New_York_City_2008_PD_44.JPG[/ame], lists MTV Networks (Viacom) as a part owner along with Comcast, HIT Entertainment, PBS and Sesame Workshop. It is a 24/7 channel carried by Directv and numerous cable providers, but not by the cable provider in the location we're moving to and not currently by Dish.

I didn't mean a Comcast exclusive channel, I meant ownership. Didn't realize Viacom was also part owner. I know it's on Direct and not Dish. I wish it was also.

I believe that Dish Network may be inclined to launch Fit TV once Discovery Health becomes Oprah Winfrey Network. Just seems like they will have only one health channel to worry about, and they would probably bring most of what fits into Fit TV over from Discovery Health.

Hopefully with a Comcast HD deal, this will come with, along with FitTV.

While Wikipedia has Viacom as part owner of PBS Kids Sprout, I haven't been able to find any other source that confirms this. All of the information points to a private partnership between Comcast, HIT Entertainment, PBS and Sesame Workshop. As a result, I guess the recent Viacom deal will have no bearing. Looks like I'm going to have to go with Directv - unless anyone has any info that this channel is coming soon to Dish.
